Thanks to Siva and all of his readers and commenters for picking up and extending the conversation about libraries, Google, and information generally. “What is a library?” is a species of a broader, difficult set of questions of the form “What is an X?” that is curiously relevant these days, despite its antiquity.
Finally, remember that Shirley Jones, who played that most famous of fictional librarians – grew up in Smithton, Pennsylvania, a tiny town outside of Pittsburgh, and all of us who live in southwest PA take enormous vicarious pride in her success.
Even if real librarians don’t dance in the stacks. Or do they?
