Bill Patry’s New Copyright Book

The newest addition to my reading list is Moral Panics and the Copyright Wars, a brand new book by Bill Patry, coming imminently from Oxford.    (September 3 is the official publication date, but the Oxford site reports that the book is in stock.  Here’s the Oxford link.)  Bill’s voice is one of the most experienced and respected in the copyright world.  You need not agree with all of his diagnoses and prescriptions to recognize that this is a book to reckon with.

I’ve been working on and off on lists of “Lost Classics of IP,” older books and scholarly articles in copyright, patent, and trademark law that don’t get the attention or recognition they deserve from modern scholars.  Moral Panics likely belongs on a counterpart listof “Modern Classics of IP,” works that clearly and directly lay out a sensible case for law reform.
