Conference Announcement and Call for Papers
First Annual Conference on Intellectual Property and New Media
“From Creator to Consumer: Working Together in the Digital World
On May 22 & 23, 2006, the University of Denver (Schools of Law, Business, & Communication) and the Cable Center (a not-for-profit educational institution funded by individuals in the cable telecommunications industry and located on the University of Denver campus) will be hosting their first annual Conference on Intellectual Property and New Media. This year’s topic, From Creator to Consumer: Working Together in the Digital World, will provide an opportunity for academics, the business sector, and other interested individuals and institutions to engage in a productive discussion of the issues raised by changing technology and uses of information and media.
The goal of the conference is to encourage discussion and debate between and among the relevant business sectors, regulators and academics about the challenges and opportunities created by digital technology, new business models, and changes in consumer demand and behavior.
The conference program will include panels on new business models and the adaptation of the business sector to the shrinkage of the distribution chain between creator and consumer in the digital world. Topics that will be addressed include digital rights management, consumer behavior and technology, and a keynote speech providing a perspective from the creative community.
Paper Submissions:
The conference committee seeks academic papers (of any length) on any topic related to the subject matter of the conference. Ideal papers will relate to one of the specific panel or presentation topics such as digital rights management, consumer behavior and technology, and new business models and the adaptation of the business sector to the shrinkage of the distribution chain between creator and consumer in the digital world. However, all papers concerning intellectual property, new media, and business models in the digital world will be considered for acceptance. The papers selected will be presented and discussed in an interactive paper session. The conference proceedings will be published in the DENVER UNIVERSITY LAW REVIEW. An author of an accepted paper may choose to have his or her paper published in the same issue of the DENVER UNIVERSITY LAW REVIEW. If your paper is selected, your transportation, lodging and meal expenses incurred in connection with your participation will be reimbursed.
Interested participants should submit a one to three-page abstract in Word or Word Perfect format and a c.v., by email, to: Viva Moffat and Michael Mireles at vmoffat@law.du.edu and mmireles@law.du.edu. Abstracts must be received by March 1, 2006 to be considered. If you have questions or wish to discuss a proposed paper topic, please contact Viva or Michael.
