I must first recommend the Berkeley Groks Science Podcast. I’ve listened to them for months, and I have to say that of the many science podcasts I’ve tried, they are by far the most entertaining.
But if scientific rationalism has got you down, look no further than Hubert Dreyfus’s Existentialism in Film and Literature. Famed for his critique of the strong AI program, Dreyfus is an astonishingly erudite lecturer on a vast sweep of philosophical terrain. He made me think of my favorite lecturers in college…Helen Vendler, R.J. Tarrant, Donald Fleming, Morton Horwitz, inter alia. It’s marvelous to be reminded of What the Best College Teachers Do…and to aspire to that infectious enthusiasm about ideas & learning in my classes.
