Long time, no blog. It’s been a busy summer.Â
First up in the blogging backlog: A shameless plug for a new book by a good friend: Eden’s Outcasts: The Story of Louisa May Alcott and Her Father, by John Matteson. The title says it all.Â
John is a professor of English at John Jay College in New York and one of several people in my small circle of doppelgängers, though I treat them as harbingers of good luck, not death (!).  We were classmates in junior high and high school. We each went to Ivy League colleges, then on to law school, and each of us eventually found a better home in academia. A couple of years ago, after a long period of observing the other’s career from a distance, we met for a great lunch in New York. John described the beginnings of the Alcott project. It is fabulous to see the work come to fruition. Congrats!
Have an Alcott letter to the reported real life “Laurie”. If anyone is interested please contact Bill-shultsbill@yahoo.com
