Google’s Ngram viewer provides endless amusement. (The project is explained here, with a bonus WKRP reference for good measure!) I searched the database for “intellectual property,” “copyright,” “patent,” and “trademark” to see what I could find about word-frequency. The results:
Intellectual property:

Copyright:

Patent:

Trademark:

But put patent, copyright, and trademark together, and you get a sense of the relative amount of use: http://ngrams.googlelabs.com/graph?content=patent,+copyright,+trademark&year_start=1800&year_end=2000&corpus=0&smoothing=3
